Southwest spokesman Brad Hawkins told the Dallas Morning News there was no indication that "some customers, but some people do it all the time."
The new policy first took effect on Friday's flight. Accordingly, non-paying customers for a refundable ticket, including Southwest's "Departure" fare, must cancel at least 10 minutes prior to departure. If that's the case, they can use the travel money again until the new flight.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, they were notified of a "departed" flight at 8:05 a.m. Flight 4236 left Colorado Springs at 6:30 a.m. and landed in Phoenix just before 8:30 a.m. flight tracker.
Southwest Airlines spokesman Dan Landson said the customer exited the plane through the back door as the plane was taxiing to the gate.

Phoenix police said the man was booked into jail Saturday night on suspicion of two counts of burglary. His family said he was a careless person who tried to kill him and may have been depressed.
